The shoot presented unique challenges. Safety barriers around the observation deck and restrictions against tripods meant traditional panoramic photography methods were impossible.
To create this 45-gigapixel panorama, the team developed a specialized human-stabilized shooting technique. By precisely controlling body position, hand movement, and capture rhythm, the photographer used the human body as a temporary stabilization platform for the complete 360-degree image collection.
A total of 2,940 individual photographs were captured, then processed through complex stitching and post-production to create this endlessly explorable digital image of New York.
Golden winter light over Manhattan
Captured in November 2019, the panorama reflects the lower winter sun angle. Views toward the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor contain noticeable backlighting.
Yet this natural condition gives the work a distinctive atmosphere. Winter sunlight creates a warm golden appearance across Manhattan's architecture, adding a unique character to the cityscape.
